Extention tubes will work for those first pictures, but if they're fully manual, prepare to get frustrated a lot

I know my macro shoots improved a lot since I got a dedicated macro.

Also 50mm is a little on the short side for insects, especially for the ones that can sting.

Don't worry about autofocus, you won't need it with a macro lens.

I have seen a few Tamron SP 90mm lenses go for reasonable prices on ebay...

Here's a sample of the Kiron 105mm f2.8. Great lens, but it has become rediculously high priced on ebay.

I set myself on the cosina 100mm f 3.5 macro, it's the same lens as phoenix, promaster, vivitar etc, and everybody speaks well about it.

They sell it on ebay Germany for around 170$ new, or on auctions usually around 100$ or little more.

Let's hope to be lucky on the auctions

for macro you don't even need the AF model. AF when doing handheld macros is a PITA. IMHO

I know, but it's the only version i have found.

On auctions on ebay.com i rarely find this kind of lens, and they still go up 100$, so better to just get it new.

only wonder i have now, is it better then the sigma 70-300 apo? they are both 1:2 without adapters.
Maybe being 100mm gives anyway better dof than a 300mm, and less camera shake to do hand held.
And these seem to be good reasons enough.
