Has anyone had any experience with this lens? Examples would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I'm away from the lens at the moment, and I remember it as a 4.5-5.6. If this is the lens you are refering to (it's a power zoom), I bought it when it first came out in the 90s. It's a well-made, sturdy lens that is, unfortunately, softer than I like at either end of its range. Mine is still going strong in semi-retirement.

I replaced it with the FA 80-320 4.5-5.6. At 100-300, this is a muchimproved lens. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as well made. I can see and feel the barrel seam and it is not a power zoom. (I'm one of very few power zoom users.)

Thanks Larry
I think there are two of these lens, the f4.5 you mentioned and the f4.7. I'm also looking at the FAJ 75-300mm F4.5-5.8. I want a longer lens than the 50-200 and don't have a lot to spend right now.

You are correct. I checked Boz's site.

The one you are looking at has a different number of elements and groups. It also weighs 1/3 less. Both are no longer in production.

The last version of the 100-300mm lens was 4.7-5.8, lightweight plastic (half the weight of the preceeding versions!), plastic bayonet mount, but still a very decent lens. Not much info on the web about it, maybe because it didn't sell well, but I bought a second hand example and was really surprised to find that it was sharp even at 300mm (450 on DSLR) and also took nice portraits at 100mm.
Although it feels cheap, it has survived as well as any of my other more expensive lenses, so it's a keeper for sure.
