Can a Sigma 1.4 teleconverter be used on the Tamron 18-250 lens? Thanks in advance.

Hi dwssas,

I usually hate this kind of post (mine, not yours!) but here goes.

I don't know the answer to your question, but my guess is that it won't -- The Sigma TCs have a protruding front element that will contact the rear lens element of many lenses, unless they are recessed. I guess that you've already found that Sigma doesn't list its competitors in 3rd party lenses in its chart -- no surprise:-)

That's the part I hate, because I can't answer your question, but the reason I'm posting this is because I might have a reasonable alternative. . .

The Tamron F 1.4x AF TC is usually considered a better alternative for three reasons. It's usually considered better optically, it doesn't have the lens compatibility problems, and it's less expensive. The Kenko 1.5x AF TC is usually mentioned in the same breath and is said to be the same unit but I don't know this for a fact. When I got mine, it was an incredible bargain at $60, but last time I looked, it was priced at $100 . . . still a bargain, IMO.

The only 1.4x TC that I've tried that outperforms this Tamron for Pentax mount lenses is the Tamron Adaptall 2 1.4x, and it only works on A2 lenses.

my $.02. . .

Scott

i've got a tamron 2x mc4 that i'm fairly pleased with. i've read numerous posts that the 1.4x is better. that's tamron tho. not sigma. from what i've read the tamron is better than the sigma. i've never been satisfied with a 2x on a zoom lens. it's too much glass in the way, JMHO

Hi Roy,

Never thought to look in the character map -- good idea, makes ¢ :-)

Robar-----thanks for the reply, I think. If the formula you posted means something, its way over my head.

dwssas,

the ''formula'' is just how to enter a symbollike ¢, or £, or ¥
does it make ¢ now ?

Back to the subject:

the sigma teleconverters are only compatible with some of sigma's own lenses, there is a compatabiilty chart on their website.
