Roy & Dawg, Serial# starts 37 ... which says Tokina and from the site you posted Roy

http://www.robertstech.com/vivitar.htm

Weight info for each type is there, mine checked at 710 grams which is for sure type 2 and again Tokina. ... Jack.

Another bit of info I've gleaned from there, is that type 1 is greater diameter than the others ... My lens came without the front lens cap, so I thought I'd found one on Ebay, but diameter given was all wrong, obviously now a version 1 cap, for now I've found an elcheapo plastic one, hopefully I'll find the correct one in time. ... They sell some on Ebay almost all the time....Welcome to the brotherhood of Series 1 owners. Mine's a Tokina as well. If I could have afforded one of these when they were new I'd have been one happy Photog!!

OK Dawg, Funnily enough I hadn't seen all that many on Ebay UK until recently. ...Here's one package that went cheaply last night, thought it would have done better. ... Jack

Edit. I don't have the means make a cap.
