Hi,

I shot these handheldwith a borrowed lens ... K100D + Cosina 100mm f3.5 macro, all at f22 1/180, and using onboard flash @ -2.0 EV + focus trap. Think I could improve results with more flash and some diffusion. I was actually trying to shoot bees that love the Spirea blossom, but they were too wick (That's an expression used more in the North of England to describe something that moves fast, particularly insects. Not sure if it applies further South ?.) the hover flies seem to stay put longer, and are much easier to shoot.

I found this lens much easier to use than my Vivitar 90mm F2.8 Macro M42 screwmount ... It doesn't help that I can't get M42 lenses to work in focus trap. BTW I do have an option to buy this lens at a reasonable price ... I can feel LBA setting in already. ... Jack

Hi Roy,

I was pleased at the way the onboard flash worked in this setup, all 1:1 BTW, I haven't tried it with the Viv. I do have a shade/reflector in the pipeline that should throw the onboard flash beyond the lens better. ... Needs some work yet, but tied up with household chores for the moment, due to the wifes fractured arm. Still very encouraging results. ... you know howI like to experiment... Jack

very nice shots jack, especially the ones of the hoverflies!

To make your M42 lenses do the focus trap, go into the custom menu, and put "AI with S-lenses" on "yes" (AI for af indicator)

hope this helps,

Tom

Hi Tom, Thanks for the comments, and I just checked, I already have that setting, but still no joy with focus trap and M42 lenses. ... Jack.

That's the one mtngal, it's a relative cheap build, being plastic, but it does a good job, I'm quite impressed by it's performance, I think I'll be adding it to my collection. Thanks for your comments.

There's a good review here ...
