I have the Vivitar 105 macro lens that has a 1:1 macro focus range....Now I have purchased for around a dollar plus shipping a set of Vivitar close up lens... +1, +2 and +4 in 52mm size....Would using all this be considered Over Kill?

tell us if it's worth it.. the proof is in the pudding.
i'd definately use a good tight lens hood using them.

Always worth trying. Lens hood would help deal with any flare caused by the extra piece of glass on the lens (you wouldn't see it all the time, only under certain conditions). The Viv is so sharp, the diopers (if they are good ones) shouldn't degrade the image too much. Post results.

The only problem I ever had with close up lenses was

the problem of extremly shallow DOF. If you can stand

that, it should work fine... Jim

The 105mm lens itself has that problem at low f/stops. The closeup lens just make it a little worse.
