Has anyone had any experience with this type of tele-converter.

this is about the same thing as trying to shoot thru a magnifying glass. i wouldn't recommended it. i've seen some okay shots with them, but this piece degrades the quality of the photos so much it was such a shame. you'd be much better off with a decent quality rear teleconverter.

Considered that also-read in several places that the rear converters give the auto focus a hard time-I have some vision problems and rely on the auto focus.

Thanks

using a rear 1.4x teleconverter you will lose 1 stop of light, with a 2x you lose 2. i can use a 1.4x with my tamron 70-300 and i still maintain autofocus. if i were to use a 2x i would lose autofocus.

if you are needing that much extra reach i'd suggest a new longer lens.

was thinking about this post while i was at the oklahoma city zoo today. had the opportunity to take one with the teleconverter for you as an example. this one i took with the tamron 70-300 at 300mm, f/5.6 plus the tamron 1.4x teleconverter. maintained autofocus. not to bad i thought for being handheld at 420mm.
