A Pentax Telephoto SMCP-A* 600mm f/5.6 ED IF Manual Focus Lens is currently on eBay. Ending October 26th. I've got no ties to this item and don't know anything about it's condition, but thought that many of you may want to know that this rarity is out there. It's out of my league, pricewise. Otherwise I'd never be posting this!

If we're talking about the same lens (I can only find one, from Germany) it's a 645 lens and would need an adapter to fit the Pentax DSLRs. This very item has been out on ebay several times at a buy it now-price that is ridiculous. On the other hand, someone bought a 35 mm format version just a few weeks ago at a price that was a true dissapointment to the seller, 575 GBP if I recall it right.

I paid around 2000 USD for mine (35 mm version). A lot of money, but still a bargain price for such a lens. It's nothing you put in your pocket to have at hand just if, it's definitely not my most used lens but it's such a joy to have when the time is right. It beats anything at the zoo, and give you wildlife opportunities as no other lens.

kjell is correct. these fast super tele's are not an everyday used lens. they more or less use you.. i've got the 500/4.5 that's about the same size and it's a joy to get full frame shots of wild life from 100meters out but it's also a PITA to set them up.

It is for 35mm. It's hard to find because the user made a title string that was too long for the eBay standards, so it got cut off. Here's the link:

If you go hauling this through the airport you will probably be pulled off to the side for carrying a weapon of mass imaging. You could do some real damage (to yourself) just by lifting it.

It has its' advantages, besides the bodybuilding aspect. When I come carrying this lens mounted on a tripod people give way, since they think I'm a dead serious VIP, probably hired by the staff.

Same thing at concerts, a camera bag and a few large lenses give you access to areas and shooting angles you'd never get to if they realized you're just another hobbyist:lol:.
