....that I decided to pick up one of the Vivitar Series 1 105mm f2.5 macro lenses from Trader Jim's latest batch. After seeing some of the good comments here, I did some research and found that this is a rebadged version of the famously well -regarded Kiron macro lens. I figured that if I didn't like it, demand was high enough that I should at least break even if I were to resell it.

I have been looking for a true macro lens for some while and with the narrow depth of focus in macro work I was suspicious of auto focus. It arrived yesterday evening and I think this one is a keeper. Solidly built with a nice feel and focus control is really, really fine.

Photos later as soon as the sun is a bit higher.

Just a couple of quick shots with my K10D and the Vivitar with minimal PP using Picasa.

lol! I have one of those lenses, too, and love it. I probably use it more than any other lens, even if it is my heaviest lens. Looks like you'll have as much fun with yours as I have with mine.

Mine is one of my lighter lens and is a joy to use. Heck I don't even hardly know it is there. How do you like the fine focus movement...Don't try it for sports...Too slow with the focus.

The wife finally forgave me for buying mine!! LOL

Yeah I think you did, at least for me.

Last year when I saw mine for sale on a belgian forum, almost noone had it. Got some good recommendations here, and went for it. Ended up getting it for 60 euros. Price has more than tripled since then.

Wonderful lens, even banged up pretty bad on the outside, the glass is still great:
