Hi all,
Before I attempt to clean this lens, some advice please.
The "dust" is more obvious at 300mm than 100mm, so is it more likely to be in the front or rear elements?

Any clues on where to start to dissassemble?

TIA

Simon

Hi, I am very much self taught as far as cleaning lenses is concerned and I have a box of failures as witness to my training experience, which actually is very little, however here is my advice for what it may be worth!

If it has a rubber sleeve I would say peel that back and look there for hidden screws otherwise I understand the usual way 'in' is to begin by removing the mount. As far as I can recall I have always been able to get the lens cells out without removing any glass from their cell and unless there is some sort of problem internal to the cell I can usually clean the glass surfaces and put it back together.

I find the big challenge in getting a lens reassembled is in getting things like the focus helicoid correctly aligned and I always tell myself that I should mark things before taking them apart. However I never learn and usually wind up spending a lot of time in experimentation.

i've dismantled 2 throw away zooms. when reassembling them that's exactly what happened. i threw them away. primes are easy i've foung. most usual way in is thru the front of the lens. here's a short tut on a 50mm..
