Hi,
there is a offer for a P-M 200/4 and a K 135/2.5...

#1 - the 200/4 has a good reputation, the 135/2.5 is said to be very soft, can you give approval of this?

#2 - price. What do you think is a good/reasonable price for these lenses? The M 200/4 is around $95 plus shipping at the moment and although I really like "A" lenses for comfort I am really thinking of making that deal.

Please help to decide!

I already own a Vivitar 70-210/2.8-4 which is quite soft wide open plus a Tamron 70-300 1:2 macro lense so there is no real need, but I've seen good reviews of the 200/4...

As for the 135/2.5 - I do a lot of low light shots, BUT I also want them to be sharp. How's that lense wide open? Let's say I stop down the 135/2.5 to 3-4... sharp or only so-so?

Thanks in advance!

if it's the takumar (bayonet) 135mm f2.5, i'd let it go. That lens doesn't get good sharpness and contrast almost until f8

If it's the Pentax K series SMC 135mm f2.5 though it is a pretty wanted lens. Said to be reasonably sharp in the wider apertures...If you can get that one for under 100$ it's a steal.

I believe it's a Pentax-K as it doesn't read Takumar on it directly. There is a sunshade coming with it labeled "Takumar 1:2.5 135mm 1:4 200mm".

On the lense itself you can read (around the front lense): "SMC PENTAX 1:2.5/135" - to my mind it's from the 1st series of Pentax 135/2.5 as the "SMC" is in capital letters.

Price for the 135/2.5 ist still over $200 plus shipping.

Any hints on the 200/4?

The Super Takumar 200mm f/4 is a very sharp lens even low f/stop. Don't know about the K-mount SMC M 200mm. Should be a decent one and be sharp a stop or two off the bottom if it is like it's smaller cousins. I see you have the Group 3 Viv series one lens...They are better one or twp stops up as well. The group 1's and the group 2's at f/3.5 are actually as sharp at that f/stop as the group 3's are at f/3.5 Just slower as they won't go f/2.5.

i've got the M200/4 and it's good and sharp. i really like shooting it with ETs. i'll go out and shoot a few for you. i'd say 100usd shipped is a little high as i see them go a lot in the 50-80usd auctions. if the 135 is a K with a 58mm filter then jump on it.. this one consistently goes for 180-230usd..
the M200 is rated higher than the A200 in IQ

135/2.5 - From what I sawIthinkit is the left one (older with "SMC") here: http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/lenses/p.../K135f2.5.html

Last one in EU went for 56.00 EUR plus shipping. I know prices for lenses are lower in the US but shipping, insurance and taxes add to that and at the end it's about the same price as I have in EU countries :sad:

@Dawg

My problem is, that I already have a rather fast lense with my Viv 70-210/2.8-4 in that range, also it is a "A" lense which I like. The reason to go for these lenses would be better resolution/sharpness an low f-stops and wide-open and the weight. The Vivitar is a tank and you can use it for self-defense!

Maybe I should tryif I can get a price-off when I take both (same seller) uhoh....

@dawg

Hehe semi-LBA only.

There are some 105/2.5 and 105/2.8 macro lenses out there, even with a "A" setting where I really would like to get my hands on, then a fast walkaround - Vivitar 28-105/2.8-3.8 high on list or one of the 28-70/2.8 Tamron/Sigma lenses. In that range I use my P-FA 28-105/4-5.6 which isn't bad sharpness-wise, but not really fast... and of course something in the wide department... FA35mm 2.0 was highly recommended at the comparisons I saw were really great...

But enough of that. Have to make up my mind on those two ones I asked about in this thread. :?

this is the good one that you linked to.

here's some M200 shats at f4 & f8. auto developed in ACR. no other PP.
1st shot will be a full size resize.. 2nd shot is a 100% crop at 800x534..
you'll see the f-stop listed.

from about 7 feet f4
