Hi,

So you are going all the way to Africa to go to a zoo to take pictures of the animals close up. Then maybe you don't need a telephoto lens. You should get a wide angle, Maybe a 14mm...

i doubt there will be many zoo's where we go, the cheetah is in a "cheetah reserve" which we will visit. Apparantly they are one of the few "large cats" which can be made tame (apart from during dinner-time)

my zoo reference is that i will go to one, and try taking pictures "from a distance" and see how they work out.

i have been to Kenia once (long ago)and was pleasantly surprised how close up you can get to various animals, sometimes too close for comfort.

still the question remains, do I want images reflecting what I can see or do I want images for the sake of it

anyway, my lens has arrived; have to wait till 15/6 when it is "fathers-day" and i'll get it as a present......

I own the Pentax 75-300 and the Pentax 18-250. I also own the Pentax 18-55. The 18-55 has been a really pleasing kit lens. For on-the-horizon tele-photo I wouldn't choose either of the zooms. After mid way into the zoom ranges on both, colors are less true and rather soft than my primes. That is, as I mentioned, for horizon tele-photo (long distances)

I have a 200 MM and a 50 mm 1.4 from the 70's that smokes all of them.
