Is the ' Pentax DA 18-55mm II ' worth buying as a kit with the new K20D camera ?

I already have the Sigma 18-55mm original K100D kit, I was always disappointed with it.

I also have the Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG ,
Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 (Di) Macro .
Pentax-M 100mm F4 Macro
and the Pentax-M 28mm F2.8 Wide

Would I be better off buying the body only, or is the 18-55mm II kit worth the little extra ?

Considering how little they ask for it, it might be worth getting. I've been reading conflicting comments - some people say it's better, some say it's not any different (though that's usually posted by people using it on K10 or earlier cameras). I was pretty happy with my kit lens (originally came with a DS), but the K20 sure shows the old one's limitations. I leave it on the K100 and don't bother using it on the K20. So I wouldn't plan on using the old one on the K20, especially if you weren't happy with it before.

While I've thought about getting the new kit lens once in a while, I'm not going to. I only occasionally miss having something between 24-50mm and think that I'd probably be happier with either the 16-45 or the DA*16-50 f2.8. Since it isn't very high on my priority list, I don't do anything about it.

If you are worried about the newer version of the kit lens then think about the Sigma 18-50 2.8 EX.

Hi Rodney,

Maybe you gotone that is not that good.. The one that I have I think is great for the money. Even though it is not the kit lens that came with the ist D. Mine is not the new model.

I was out the other day just out taking some shots at Fumee Falls and just playing around with the 18-55mm to decide if I wanted to keep mine or save up and get the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 EX.

If the new model II version is better than the original then by all means get one...

Here is one of the shots I took that day withmy 18-55mm (model I)lens.
