Hi all,
I remember a while ago comments on the fact this lens was a bit of a dog( maybe not that bad) and that it had been taken out of production. I see it's available again, is it a new lens or a quiet re-run. Any comments???

Thanks

Simon

By virtually all accounts I've seen (mostly user reviews from KM and Sony dSLR users), the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 EX (and you'll find more than one version of it, with and without the DG designation) is an outstanding lens (very sharp, good colors and contrast, fast Autofocus, etc.). Also, because it's got f/4 throughout it's focal range, you can use a 1.4x TC with it and still have AF after a stop loss of light.

Thanks for the good oil on that lens.

I am not usre about this particular lens , but Sigma seem to have been upgrading their lenses with HSM autofocus motors and adding Pentax mount versions.

This one has HSM so it should offer reasonable autofocus perfomance for sports and action.

I don't think they're shipping an HSM version of it for Pentax and Sony models yet (although they've announced they're adding HSM to some of the other lenses in these mounts and will probably do the same thing for this one at some point).

But, I've seen good feedback from KM and Sony owners about AF speed, despite the lack of HSM (it appears to be geared for fast focusing).

This is a great lens. I have this and the DA*300 and at 300 there is no difference that I can see. These images are with the Sigma 1.4tc as well...
