The subject lens is being offered for sale locally for an asking price of $40. The seller claims it is in near mint condition which I canvery by inspection. However, I was wondering if anyone had any opions of this lens in terms of its overall performance.

I am very happy with the performance of mine, but at the moment its place in the camera bag has been taken by a Carl Zeiss Jenna Tessar f2.8 50mm.

This is mainly because the Zeiss lens is a newer acquisition ( did someone say LBA!!) rather than any obvious performance difference so far.

The Takuma is far better than the newer kit zooms.

I have a 55mm 1.8 that I won't part with. Very sharp photos.

Dawg: You mentioned a f/1.8; the seller has her's listed as f/2. Are there 2 different versions? The one being offered is claimed is late 60's/ early 70's vintage.

Phil: thanks for you feedback as well.

For $40 it hardly seems like I can go wrong especially if I try ot out on my DL before buying.

there's also the tak 50/1.4.. i've found it works pretty good but not near as good as the FA version..
i bought a super tak 50/1.4 from a camera shop for $25.. problem with these is is that when they were made the glass had a low radioactive componet. as they age the glass in one lens yellows. you can fix it but leaving it exposed to the sun for about a month.. on ebay you can pick up a bayonet mount for little $$.

Go here and look. Then bookmark it for future reference. There were a LOT of different lens made in screw mount in the 50mm range. All very good performers too.
