I got the kit lens with the k20d. I figured this would be my next move. I have read some nice things about 55-300 lens and the price wasn't to bad.So I ordered one.I do have an old tamron sp 70-210 f/3.5 but I'm not crazy with the out come with the digital camera. It could be operator error.....:?

Post samples when you get the 55-300! It's the lens I'm most seriously considering getting next, just waiting for the bank balance to look healthy enough to order it (just replaced my computer and software).

I'm sure you did - they should both serve you well. See the discussion of both in this thread:

I have found it to be a great all around lens for me. With it and the kit lens, I can cover a large range in a little bag for little expense.

I think that you will like your 2 lens combination. I have the 55-300 and it is very good. I forget the poster, but he was up in Canada (BC if I recall correctly) with the K20 and 55-300 (do a search for 55 300 on this forum). He used it to take some really great bird pictures. Great detail. The lens coupled with the high resolution body, I think is a very good combination.

The Pentax 55-300mm lens is a highly rated lens for $300. I don't have it myself but I wouldn't mind owning one.

At dpreview someone did a test shot and compared the 55-300 to the 55-200, tamron 70-300 and even compared it to the mighty DA* 300mm.

Thanks for all the comments. Work has been keeping me busy and I haven't had much time to mess with the new lens. I did take this on my way home from work.

Thanks
