This was taken from the same location at the lake with my old tamron 28-80. I took this at 28mm. Gives you an idea how far away the church is.

Sure looks like a useful lens, especially stopped down. Considering how hard it can be to find free long lenses, it's not such a bad one. My Kiron is soft when wide open also. When I got it to stop down a bit, I discovered it's not a bad lens at all. I've read the directions on how to take it apart, but being a zoom lens, it's more complicated and I'm just not going to try. I'm not real good at these types of things (like, my computer is back in the shop for a second time, and I still don't know why it does what it does).

Then you have a fixed mount one. What is the serial number? Or better yet show us a photo of it.

Steve this is mine..It is a Vivitar TX lens with interchangeable mount but both your's and mine were made by Tokina in the mid 70's or so. Very sharp lens but they do have some CA when shooting towards a brightly lit background. Here is mine...not as pristine as yours but still in good shape. You have a keeper lens fer sher.
