All with Pentax *ist DS and Sigma f450 f1:5.6 on photo sniper bracket, hand held, manual focus.

All direct from camera but the firstone has been slightly cropped and slightly rotated to level the horizon.

Not too shabby at all! Really like the second one. Is the photo sniper one of the camera shoulder mounts that look almost like a rifle? Don't you get strange looks using it at the beach? I'm not sure I'd dare use one on any of the SoCal beaches!

Yes, the photo sniper is my interpretation of the old USSR 'Fotosnaiper'. It has a hand grip like a gun and a shoulder stock. There is another handle to operate the focus.

Although I like the sort of subject that can really only be captured with a long lens I do not like to use (well, carry, actually!) a tripod and it seems the 450mm lens is about the maximum I can get even moderately passable results hand held even with my 'photo sniper'.

I probably do get strange looks though I dont really notice them and I avoid pointing the thing at peoples faces close up.

This is the first photo sniper I made..

Nice rig John. Lens does well too. Have you tried one of your monster lens with it?

That seems to work very well and don't you just love that DS?

Harriet, I took my gun mount out to California the last time I came out to visit and it was interesting to watch homeland security check it out at the airport. Here in the Midwest they didn't have much of a problem with it, but in San Diego they made a real project out of it.
