I recently bought a new Pentax KM that came with the Pentax 18-55 mm lens. This lens is denoted 'L' by Pentax and has a plastic lens mount on the lens..which I'm not too happy about...I like them metal.

It also doesn't come with a lens hood.

Any suggestions for a lens hood that I could use...don't want to spend too much.

I think the filter size is 52 mm.

Interesting question - I think there are a number of alternatives. While I haven't looked at the Cokin system in many years, it used to have a hood that you could use with the system. If you are interested in using graduated ND filters or other filters often, you might check it out.

I take it you didn't review this before purchase....

One of the selling points of the camera is the weight loss made by Pentax - one of them being the lens mount. Another is the lack of quick shift focus.

The lens hood is an optional accesssory and is part number PH-RBA52mm

Alternatively, there are many cheap options on ebay. Also consider a rubber hood.

I take it you didn't review this before purchase....No I realized that the KM's kit lens had no lens hood and had a plastic mount. In fact I would of preferred to get the KM without the kit lens, but they don't sell it that way. I didn't buy the combo for the lens...but for the body. Besides a carry around I'm using the KM as an additional body to my K10D and assortment of Pentax lenses. But the 18-55 is there...so I'll give it a shot.

One of the selling points of the camera is the weight loss made by Pentax - one of them being the lens mount. Another is the lack of quick shift focus. I would prefer to carry around the miniscule extra weight of a metal mount on the lens...than have a plastic mount.

I'm with you on the mount. Beside a little weight helps keep the lens steady.
