The good copy of the DA55-300 I now have certainly meets my needs. Take a look at my thread on Hearst Castle - most of the exteriors were taken with it. I still haven't taken the time to do comparison shots (maybe lunch today) to compare it with some of my other lenses that cover a similar focal range.

From what I've seen posted, it seems like the Tamron is better than the Sigma APO, sharper, but suffers from PF. Even the bad copy of the Pentax lens I had didn't have PF - just was horribly soft at the edges.

I kinda like my Sigma 100-300 DL lens but it is the cheaper of Sigma's offerings and I'm sure there are better lens out there. I had a Tamron 70-300 LD lens and it was nice but sounded like a coffee grinder when focusing. Scared the Be-Jesus out of a lot of birds with it. I'm thinking about getting a Vivitar 70-300 manual lens made by Kobori (77 serial number ) Or a later version 70-300 TX lens. The Sigmas and Tamrons are very plastic feeling to me.
