Default Pentax SMC-A 35-105mm f/3.5

I have the opportunity to buy a used SMC-A 35-105mm f/3.5 . Haven't tried it yet, but it is supposed to be clean and working. Any opinions on that lens and what would be a fair price? Thanks, (I will post this also in the Pentax SLR Lens forum.)

Jim, I've had no personal experience with this lens but, I hear its quite sharp and if I could grab one for around $100 I'd sure get it.

Default Buy it!

My brother-in-law has one, and I'm envious. Must be one of the best zooms out there.

I have one and I bought it new in 1984. It is a heavy lens, but very high quality. I recall being very impressed with pictures I took, with it attached to my K1000 and tripod mounted.

Many regard this lens as a Pentax classic.

It is the only lens from my film days that I still attach to my digital slr's.

Here is an attachment that contains a number of reviews of this lens.

http://www.pentaxforums.com/lensrevi...Zoom-Lens.html

I've used my 35-105 Macro Zoom A for 26 years. It was the main lens I used during my film days, because of it's versatility and high quality. Never had a problem with it and it has traveled with me across Western Canada and Western USA, France, Great Britain.

I recommend it if you can get it for a reasonable price and if it's in good shape.

Sorry, I don't have any idea of a current price, but I bought mine new in '84 for $ 329 Cdn. I think the retail back then was about $ 375-400...lotta $$ back in '84.

Hope this helps.

Les

i merged the two threads into the Pentax Lens thread as it was more appropriate for this talk and keeps all the information together.

Hi Jim,
Superb zoom lens ... I picked up mine in mint condition at around 40, I have seen them top 70 on Ebay UK. ... Jack.

Edit. ... PS. This was a couple of years back when the GBP was strong against the dollar.
