I've found the Pentax 80-320 is generally a little soft but still capable of some very nice shots too. The Tamron 70-300 is what I have on now and whilst sharper has some severe CA issues in bright / high contrast light (although it has the benefit of macro and can get some good macro shots with great bokeh). I will be selling both to go for the Pentax DA 55-300 and that would be my advice ..... save your pennies until you can afford the DA Pentax !
