ive heard people talk about that lens but I saw only one on ebay for 2,000.00 maybe hes just trying to rob someone Im not sure, if I can find one second hand cheap enough I would definitely consider it.

All in all, the AFA right now is looking like 500 bucks, and the SP 300/2.8 I saw is 2,000

so thats 2500.00, and my car cost 500.00 :-p

well i saw one on andorama, but its 600 bones and its labeled as F condition, which is pretty much bottom of barrrel. What exactly is the going rate on this lens, while it looks good, the pictures of the da*300 still look much better and if the price is about the same or higher its still not winning me over. I do like how itll be faster with stacked TC's but the coloring of the da*300 is much more beautiful from what ive seen.

any tips/ideas? I am going for IQ overall, this lens is very sharp so itll have a little headroom but I tried it with a 3X vivitar 7 element and it was a complete and utter joke!
$150-$200 for this TC is about right but if you do not need the TC to work with SDM you should go for the non-DM compatible one with the same optical performance at around $80 apiece.
This TC is the only one of 2 discontinued SD compatible TC. There is so far no one currently in production yet.

The price of a 300/2.8 ranges from $400-900 generally. KEH has several in the $600-700 range as well as one around $900 that is probably pretty much pristine. I haven't followed them too closely on Ebay since I've kinda given up on that site because of the automated snipers but it seems they go from $400-700 or so there depending on the condition. Not sure but I suspect that for $2000 you were looking at one of the Tamron 300/2.8 AF lenses, I've never seen a 300/2.8 SP for anything over $1K and even then it's been awhile.

You're welcome. For the money it seems to be a hell of a lens as long as you don;t mind MF. I don't own one yet but it's a bit sharper than my 80-200 SP and that lens is plenty sharp so I doubt you'd be disappointed.

About time Pentax put out a 2xTC that does work with AF.

The reason i got my DA*200mmF2.8. I was told a Sigma 2x TC would work with it, ( it wont). Wanted a cheap version of a 5/600mm.

Have you tried a kenko 2x? I'm more than pleased with the quality of my kenko 1.5 but I haven't tried a 2x yet. But yeah, it's weird that Pentax doesn't offer any 2x TCs (or any TCs?) for their system.

Well. Do not spend time on 2X. Pentax does it right in not bothering with any 2X TC
