Did you get one of the SDM campatible TC?
And Pentax is right in not bothering with any 2x TC

i actually picked up a tamron 300 sp 2.8 !! WOOOOHOOO and it came with the tamron sp x2 TC, which ive heard mixed reviews on but its matched to the lens.

I'd love to match this lens with the pentax 1.7x AFA still but will have to wait further down the road. For the price on the set, I could not resist. Truly an incredible deal. If the TC is really terrible then I will probably throw it to the wolves on ebay and just shoot at 300 until I can afford the AFA. I wont have the lens until saturday most likely so havent got a chance to use it, but im incredibly excited.

Anyone have a time machine I can use? :-D

Great pick up NMR - what did you pay for it ?

There was an excellent thread in this forum not too long ago between some of the 'heavy-weights' with long lenses including Scott (not referring to your weight guys) ! You should try to find it.

I do remember that one of the best options in terms of flexibility and retaining excellent IQ was : DA*300 + AFA 1.7x + Tamron 1.4 (giving you; 300, 420, 510 and 714).

Most likely would be one of the F2.8s like Tamron , FA* or A* 300mmF2.8.

i obviously dont have the DA *300 so I cant contest, but at F/4 I think throwing 2 TC's on it would give you way to slow of a lens

I am hoping daniel is right, as thats what I bought I got the deal for 550, plus its got new glass put in by tamron

I'm not impressed with the Tamron 2x but mine was an ugly one I took apart and cleaned the glass in. Still, it's much softer than my Tokina 2x. Same is true for the 1.4x (which is actually what the 300/2.8 should've come with as that was the way they were sold) which is softer than the kenko 1.5

Also, you'll need a good tripod. i don;t think there is much chance of getting great shots with the 300+2x handheld.

ive got 2 nice tripods so thats covered. down road i want to trade my tamron 2x tc for a pentax afa, but have to let me recoop from the recent spendage first. while i know the tammy sp 2x isnt the best around, its definitely a cool toy I look forward to trying with my new lens. Ive seen pics of the pair and whether perfect circumstances and luck was involved it proved to produce some nice images so well have to wait and see.

i wish I were strong enough to handhold a 6 pound lens, but atleast my bogen wil ginally get some use again

I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with the combo. one thing I'll say from trying the 80-200/2.8 which is similar in sharpness to the 300/2.8 with the 2x is that you have to really stop it down or else the image loses all contrast.

For double TC, the minimum is F2.8 prime lens. But still it is not a guarantee. All TC are add-on lens and it could be a nightmare with just one 1mm mismatch in lens configuration.

Scott has pretty good success rate. But still he cannot guarantee replication 100% even with the same TCs and lens .

Scott.....correct me if I am wrong
