Default Tamron AF016P-700 SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Lens

I have a Pentax K-R.

I want to get a faster lens so that I can take pictures of my daughter and indoor picture. Is this a good lens "Tamron AF016P-700 SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Lens" or should I just get the Pentax 35mm F2.4.

I found this lens at http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-AF016P-...=2SB8U42UKNLMH

I read the review and it says the VC version doesn't produce as shape image. Is this the right one without VC?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I have the Tamron 17-50mm on my Pentax K5 and it is the one without VC- you don't need that as the later Pentax DSLRs all have Shake reduction built into the camera body. Also it should make the version for a Pentax a bit cheaper.

I bought it as a versatile low light lens for candid groups and individual portraits. It works fine.
Here are some lab test comparisons that back up my subjective view that it is a handy lens to have.

I stil prefer my DA 21mm Limited for as a wide angle for landscapes etc.
