Default Tamron 300 SP 2.8 Filter q's

I think a few of you here have this lens, Snostorm?

I have a question about the rear 43mm filter. I think this is great as you can drop the filter in without having to buy a massive front filter.

Im questioning if the stock filter it comes with has any hindrance on IQ or benefit of removing/keeping it in.

It seems slightly softer when in as if its geared for portrait shots.. No surprise there as most filters soften iq. I would prefer to shoot without it but didn't know if there would be any adverse effects im unaware of.

I've had this lens for maybe two years now or more just never questioned its removal.

I tried researching this online and haven't really found any great information on it.

Thanks for the help

It depends on which model you have. I know the 107B, the white one which is the first version of the lens was designed to be used with the filter but is sharper without it. The 60B and 360B as far as I know are meant to be sharpest with the filter in. If your pics are sharper without it I don't see why you can't just remove it, shouldn't affect anything else at all. i have wondered about the same filter in my SP 200-500/5.6 but have never taken the time to do a test and see if it does affect the IQ any. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I may have to do some real fine comparison shots rather than just an in camera A/B test as I was performing.
