I've encountered a bit of a problem with my 24-135. When I go to the menu, it comes on briefly sometimes, and then goes off quickly. Sometimes not. Maybe the reason these lenses are selling so cheaply is because of a imcompatability problem with the chip in the lens. It's not a big deal for me as I've perservered and have been able to make the wanted changes, but it does maybe indicate why this lens is going so cheap.......thekman.

Anyone else have a problem?? Thekman what model camera do you have?

BTW, was cleaning up today and found a 77mm circular polarizer in an old camera bag, forgot I had itfor my Minolta Maxxum mount 19-35mm lens. Hope everything works out, at least I got lucky on this item.

Hi Ira. I have the istDS. I've also done the firmware update. This problem is not a big deal, but makes one wonder if that's the reason for the cheap price. I see they're offering this version to the Canon users for over $300......thekman.

Well I have a DL so I am crossing my fingers until the lens arrives. Hopefully your experience isn't characteristic. If others are not having trouble you should contact Cameta and ask them what to do next, a defect like that must be covered under warranty.

Lawrence

I noticed some of your pictures were taken with a Fuji S5100, I have an S7000.

Which of your DL pictures were shot with the Sigma, all of them? If this lens works out it may be on my camera for 80% of the time or more. The FA 28-80mm will be retired to the film camera, as will the 70-200mm Takumar-F. The DA 18-55mm kit lens will mainly see use for parties, indoor shots and the occasional group shot (I can never get the broad vista landscape shot to work so I gave it up). The FA 100-300mm will continue to be my wildlife lens (the 2X Takumar-A converter may be used quite a bit here as well. That pretty much leaves everything else covered by the 24-135mm Sigma.

I have a wedding to shoot in July and this Sigma may be the only lens I use, it gives almost the exact same zoom range as the Fuji S7000 that I used at my last wedding shoot (which, thankfully, was an outdoor affair except for the ceremony itself. The S7000 would have had issues with focus in a dimly lit reception hall).

Hello, Ira,

Only the galleries titled "Max" and "Lucy" were taken with the Fuji S5100.Posted those so some friends of mine could take a look. Almostall of the others were taken with the DL and the Sigma Lens. I haveposted some new pictures in the past couple of hours from today's trip to Estes Park, CO, and the Rocky Mountain National Park.

However, you may want to get some guidance from those with experience in photographing weddings . . . I don't have that experienceand do not know how this lens would be for that setting.

Thanks for looking,

Lawrence

Lawrence, your photos are sharp and contrasty, the lens looks good.Great set of images. When I mentioned weddings I was just noting that the lens was just the right range. Does if focus fairly quickly, especially in low light?

Ira, the lens works well for me, but I don't have many other lens or the experience to be able to make a good comparison. I find the focus to be quick, but weddings are awfully important, so listen to somebody who knows what they are talking about. : )
