Default Fried my LCD

I was using my Q7 today with the LCD magnifier in bright sunlight, It works well when using a baseball cap. I must have held the camera at just the right angle to let the sun focus through the magnifier on to the LCD with the camera switched on and burned out the LCD right in the center. See images

See yellow lines and spots in center of the LCD when camera is turned on with lens cap in place

Also shows up when using the camera focusing on subject

This image with camera off you can see the damage,

So everyone be mindful when using this type of device and keep it shaded. I have used it many times on both my Q and Q7 and never had a problem. I assume the same thing can happen when using a hood with a magnifying lens that I have also used many times without problems.

The camera still works fine and no problems with the images but it just pi**es me off every time I look at the LCD

G'day Hans

What a bugga !!

possible solution mate ... get a bottle of old-fashioned typists white-out and paint out the defect ~ I'm told that was the solution years ago for the Irish typist who did the same on her computer screen

Otherwise - yeah a real bugga and your warning is well advised

I think black paint might be easier on the eyes but am thinking of swapping out the LCD with one of my older Q's if they are common

Have you found another LCD to replace it with with or do you still use it like that?

I have been using it until yesterday, I opened it up with the intention of replacing the LCD with one out of my older Q's. Then things went bad and I ripped all the wires out of the rear dial trying to get the LCD out, DO not try to open a Q7, it isn't easy. It is now unusable, new Q7 ordered. After the problem opening the Q7 I never did try to open one of my Q's. Any one interested in a nice black or white original Q with 02 cheap, I need to fund the Q7 replacement.
