Ruth, the rose is gorgeous! Now don't get me wrong, the hibiscus shots are nice but they just don't "pop" like the 1st & the rose. Anyway of getting the center of the bloom (I think it's called the pistils?? someone help!) to get focused like the center of the 1st shot & maybe blur the rest of the bloom ?? Does that make sense? I think it'll be an outstanding shot, IMHO!

Love the rose, but hibiscus flowers are harder to photograph. Best thing to do is to focus on the part of the flower closest to you and use a smaller aperture, to try to get a bigger depth of field. Or back off and use a longer lens (don't know if you have one longer than the kit lens). If you used something like f11 orsmallerinstead of f5.6, you would have a better chance of getting it all in focus. Other than that, I love it's color!

to answer your Qns:
Lighting:
Natural Lighting, the aperture was stopped down to like f5.6 or so, and a 200 ISO, it was bright outside so shutter speeds were in the 750-1500 range depending on the shot.

PP was done in Apple Aperture, some color correction due to the midday sun and some exposure/ sharpness corrections, besides that pretty much nothing else.
