I agree - you are taking some outstanding pictures and having such fun. Is this a stilt? It doesn't completely match the picture in my guide, so I wondered.

I think it is a Grebe!
I am doing some web work and photography for a client in Calistoga and went down to visit a photographer friend in Monterey. Now I am driving home in a SUV I bought in Northern CA for the worlds longest test drive. Tom |

Definitely. It matches the Western Grebe in my guide - thanks for the information! I had seen one before and (as usual) looked at the wrong section of my book and couldn't figure it out.
Have a great time driving cross country. It's been a long time since I did that - always had a great time. Hope you have enough time to stop often and take pictures, then post them here. I can think of dozens of interesting places along your way, depending on how you go. |

Taking 80 across to 35, then north to Minneapois and then home. A fun drive with an 18 year old truck.

That makes sense, but if it were me and I had unlimited time, I'd make a side trip to Tahoe for one night, another side trip to Jackson, Wyoming, perhaps go further north and stop by Mt. Rushmore and the Little Big Horn, etc. Oh well, it's always fun to dream.
What elderly SUV/truck did you get?! I hope it's in great condition, there's a number of empty miles on that route. |

That would be this one! I may take some side trips, but I am in kind of a hurry to get back.

Looks like a Nissan Pathfinder? We once had an '88 Nissan Hardbody pickup, which we sold with 290,000 miles on it - they were good trucks.
I can understand the need to get back, it's not exactly summer vacation. Drive safely. |
