I have been spending evenings working through vacation photographs and amidst the family photos, landscapes, and macros I managed a few halfway decent bird shots. Most of my BIF attempts have involved manual focus lenses without a great deal of success. This time I tried AF-C with the Sigma 24-135mm and found my hit ratio improved quite a bit.

It helped that the sea birds fly fairly close to you when you are walking the beach of course.

I believe this is a juvenile white ibis but if I am wrong someone please correct me. This one was taken with a Tokina 100-300 and Tamron 1.4x TC mounted on a tripod. It was not a legendary combination but I could not see dragging the 300mm f/2.8 on vacation.

Lastly an Osprey that seemed to enjoy roosting on the same branch every afternoon, but only if he was mostly backlit. I think he was taunting me. Same combo as above.

Awesome shots Tim. Normally I find the gull shots to be common, but the first one with the fish in it's beak is quite a catch - no pun intended.

And whatever #4 is - ibis or otherwise - is simply a great shot.

I wouldn't say that I have an eye for great photographs or am qualified to critique, but I know what I like, and I like these.

Tim, these are great. The backlighting on the gull worked out well. Good composition on the Osprey. I especially like the first Royal Tern (the second is good, too, but then one good tern deserves another :roll: ). Show us more.

Jim, thanks for looking and commenting. I agree, normally gulls aren't too photogenic, now if I can catch an Osprey or more interesting bird carrying a fish . . .
