On my travels to NY I made a pit stop in Baltimore and visited this park which is a fantastic place to watch (and photograph) arriving aircraft. Aircraft land a couple of hundred yards away

Jelpee,
I like how you framed this shot with the 737 coming in. The bad thing is I never fly to bwi, always fly to Dullas.

Jehan nice shot catching it with the sign! I wish more airports had such an area. I enjoy plane shots a lot but it is hard now since 9/11 to get near airports with a long lens.

Keltech,
European airports, allot of them have public viewing areas still.

I was in a park in East Boston taking pictures of sailboats in Boston harbor and was approached by a police officer who questioned me as to what I was taking pictures of and why. I spoke with him and asked why he even cared and he said it was because of my proximity to Logan airport (it was 1 1/2 miles away). Lou |

That is worst the NYC, I can get close to JFK and LGA to take photo with a short lens. That is just a bit carried away at 1.5 miles away.

ST, GW & Dustin: Thanks for the comment on the set up. It took a few different tries to get this shot and ensure that the shutter speed was fast enough to capture the aircraft and yet get enough DoF to keep the sign and aircraft in focus.
Lou: I know what you mean about security in and around airports. Lately I've been playing a cat and mouse game in taking pictures from locations and not staying around too long in any one place. I must admit that usually with some pro-looking gear in hand, it arouses less suspicion! Jehan Last edited by Wingman; Aug 23, 2010 at 8:42 AM. |
