SA has left hand driving, so I did all the driving on public roads. So I was released from duty in the game parks, where my wife did the driving. When we saw the rhino mother and child (http://forums.steves-digicams.com/fo...mp;forum_id=80) coming out on the road behind the car I asked my wife to reverse. She refused, claiming she hadn't learnt to reverse the left hand steered car yet. So we went on ahead a bit, when this guy came out in front of us:

She stopped, but he didn't. When he started to stomp the ground with his hind feet she somehow took a quick lesson in reversing though. :-)

The rhino finally decided to get into the bush instead and our tour continued. After a few minutes a loud trumpet sound was heard, and my wife said "oh, don't say there's an elephant on the road around the bend". There was, and he was huuuuge.

She didn't want to get closer, but he did. And now there were cars behind us preventing any reversing.

And so he stopped just in front of the car to continue his dinner.

Taking his time he finally decided to walk beside and not over our car. By now my pulse was at around 300 bpm and when he passed the car on my side he was too close for my lens. :shock:Just to give you an impression, the last not very good shot gives a hint of another car at the left. It's a rather big SUV, as I said he was huuuge.
Thanks for looking Kjell |

LOL! Great experiences (now that they are over) - you will have something to talk about for years. Animals in game parks are used to cars and people, but for peace of mind you might want to think about renting a bigger car next time! But first you will have to convince your wife that there will be a next time . . . .

![]() ![]() Not sure if I could stand to be in that situation unless I was behind the wheel! I don't think I'll ever get the chance to travel to other countries but, I sure do envy those of you who can. Nice work Kjell. ![]() |
