I was thinking rather the same thing as Kjell. The second picture is a better depiction of the subject, the saddle (looks likea lovely, comfortable one), but there's something about the photograph (not the subject) that isn't as pleasing to me. Is it the lighting that gives the picture a rather flat color tone? Or too much background? Or something else I can't put my finger on? If the second one had the photo quality of the first one it would be awesome - I can see why the first one caught your eye and why you posted it in the first place.

Maybe a vertical showing more of the saddle and its attachments below the seat would help - it just looks incomplete as it is, emphasizing only the seat and pommel.

i will admit to not being a horse person
and have never looked closely at a saddle so these photos are a bit of a treat ![]() the sepia stands out the best i feel especially the rope that is very nice detail the black and white is flat (i looked at the histogram) but can be improved if you want if you just desaturated it that would be why it is flat i can show you my attempt if you wish? |

the aim of black and white is to have a full range of tones from black to white
and keep details in the shadows and highlights the hard bit is converting colours to shades of grey so that they dont all end up similar shades there are heaps of ways to do it with this i used your colour photo and took out the blue channel i did a second image that had only the "L" channel (this one had the most detail in it) and merged them together using overlay then added a black to clear gradient at the topp this likely isnt the best way to do it either lol its just how i did it ![]() ![]() |
