Patty, I love the idea, but for me the tree branches take a little bit away from the picture. EXIF shows it was taken at 26mm. Is there any chance to maybe get in front of the tree and use a wider setting like 18mm without it changing the overall perspective of the photo?

Thanks, Ishino. The snow is about 18" there, or was Friday night, since we've had another 8-10" on top of that since then. I was standing on the shoveled sidewalk, but I can try to go back and follow your suggestion. I had played around with it a little more earlier tonight to submit to a town photo contest we have. I'll replace this one with the cropped version so you can see.

I like the idea too and, remembering how quiet a snowy night was as a kid (before moving to FL), I think really says peace. I like the first uncropped one better but I agree with Ishino that another angle or spot without the tree would be better.

I like the original version better, too. The tree is more intrusive in the cropped version - its presence in the original didn't bother me as the bare branches add to the wintery feeling.

Not too late yet, folks. Here's mine. St Lucia, the Italian saint celebrated on the 13:th of December. Only in Sweden and the odd lutheran church in Wisconsin.
Not a very great photo, but a great serenity! (Notice the BigDawglook-alike at the far right) Kjell |
