Ran into a small flock of meadowlarks. They aren't your typical fare around here.

This is breeding plumage. They have a really nice song, too.

It screams National Geographic! The DoF effect really makes the bird stand out. Also, nice color scheme. Very nicely done!

RedStickMan Mar 28, 2008 6:26 PM

Agreed. I like everything about this photograph. The DOF, background, colors, composition and the bird's expression make it really great!

Thanks Jelpee and Redstickman. I found them in exactly the same spot as I saw one last year.

I think they realized I wasn't going t hurt them and they hung around till a big ol' hawk flew over.

Can't add anything else to what's been already said - it's an outstanding picture. I'll want to see this one when I'm home and not on my lousy laptop monitor.

Thats a great capture, I have never seen one around here.

Thanks Harriet and Terry.

I am going to make the trek up to St Augustine one day next week to check out the rookery there.

bilybianca Mar 29, 2008 2:55 AM

I'll just agree with everyone else. It's an outstanding picture!

Driver3 Mar 29, 2008 4:59 AM

Thanks, Kjell. I've lived here a long time and have only seen these twice. I guess they used to be much more prevalent.

Terry, the rookery should beprime this week. It is a much smaller place than you would imagine but that is what makes it cool, too. The ability to be really close.
