I've read the owners manual several times to see if you can use a 8 Mb Class 6 SDHC card in the K10D..
I'm assuming that you can't (without firmware updates???), because nowhere in the manual that I can find does it say that you CAN!!..The thing is that a photographer in the UK on one of the dpReview forums mentions using a Integral 8 GB Class 6 SDHC card professionally with the K10D So my first question is, is anyone usingclass 6 SDHC cards in their K10D?? Are any / all of the firmware updates necessary in order to use SDHC cards in the K10D?? If the updates are necessary, how are they performed??..I'm guessing that you download the update into your PC & then transfer the update into the camera through the USB 2-to-camera cable?? Which of the updates are nrcessary??..Which ones have the folks on this forum performed & how did the update help you?? I start a class on PHOTOGRAPHING BALTIMORE'S ARCHITECTURE on 6-23-07.. The instructor would prefer that we shoot in RAW, & since you don't get all that many RAW images on a 1 GB card I was considering the purchase of an 8 GB SDHC card. Then I would have an 8 Gb SDHC card with 2- 1 GB SD cards as backup.. For those of you shooting in RAW, how many images are you getting on your cards??..I know it depends on the file size of the images, but what's your average?? Thanks for any & all help!! Bruce |

Go to the Pentax site and download the latest firmware for your K10D.
Please ----- read ----- the instructions. Very simple and easy to follow. Make sure you have a full charge on the battery. I have 2 4GB cards - which are SDHC and they work just fine with firmware v1.20 and 8GB card should be no problem. PDL |

I have 4 4Gb SDHC cards - cheap as chips over here £17 each.
Initial readings: RAW+ (The one I use)~ 186 images (I have taken over 200 on one card though) RAW~240 (again more can fit depending on the shot) JPG (although you will not use it!) ~ 750- >800 (mine now reading 812 So I would say get a couple of 4Gb SDHC cards whichdefinitely work, and don't put all your eggs in one basket. Bad enough to lose 180 shots - much worse to lose over 360. Darren |

Thank you to PDL & Darren!!
I think I'll take the advice & purchase the 4 Gb cards instead.. Less expensive, anyway.. Those chips that the cards are cheaper than, they don't have VINEGAR on them, do they??? Everybody knows that they taste better with KETCHUP!!!!! Bruce |

BTW Darren,
How come the prices for memory in the UK are so much less than the US?? 17 pounds is about $30.00, right?? What class cards are you using?? Class 2, 4, or 6?? I've been looking around for several hours & the least expensive 4 Gb class 2 card I could find was about $35.00.. Bruce |
