Well, it arrived Friday evening! K100D Super with kit lens.

First impression are good so far. Almost identical in size and feel to my old Panasonic FZ-30. I guess that's why it appealed to me. Menus and features are pretty easy to access. I found my thumb kept hitting the AE-L button at first, but I seem to have adjusted. One of the reasons I was attracted to the K10D at first was the dual scroll wheels, as the FZ-30 has the same setup basically. I can see the convenience of two, but don't terribly miss the front one.

Everything is noticeably faster compared to the Panasonic, though quite a bit louder (focus and shutter).
It's going to take some getting used to not having a live view on the LCD, especially for macro shooting. I guess I'll be doing more lying on the ground and such now, but not a big deal. Gets me more personally involved in the shot. :G

As I had read, the AWB is pretty nasty, at least for me so far. I have found setting it to Manual and doing a quick adjustment shot works pretty well though.

Overall, I'm very happy with it. The IQ is much better than the FZ-30, especially in low light. I find I don't miss 8MP so much and can even crop a little with decent results with 6MP.

Anyway, still feeling it out and already getting the itch for a fast lens for indoor shots without using the flash. The bug has bitten!

Here are a few of early shots. A couple of them were taken with my old Raynox DCR-250 macro lens attached. Works pretty well I think.
The composition could be better on a couple of these, but I'm just playing around with it so far.

1 - The Cat - I didn't leave the house much over the weekend, so the poor cat was forced to be my subject. LOTS of cat pics.

Impressive start.

when colour temperature is likley to be an issue shoot RAW.

Then you can precisely adjust the white balance when you process the images on the computer.

Oooh - very nice! It looks like you can wait a while for the macro lens, the Raynox is working well for you. Looks like the fast lens would be a better first buy than the macro. And then there's the longer lens, etc. etc.

you're just north west of my old stomping grounds.
nice shots. looks like you like the little would. i've found the AWB to work well except inside. 8meg P&S ???? i'll take the 6meg 6-8 times larger pixels any time.
the bug?? never stops..

Well I hate to admit it, but it seems that "other review guy" was right when he said Pentax's JPEG processing on the *ist series left some to be desired...these look great!

I can't get that straight out of the box with my DL...

Looks like the K100D Super is one very optimized, finished product :)
