I had a chance to take a nice night picture yesterday -- moon over a misty field of corn. My *ist DL with a Tamron XR DI 28-300 lens (plus tripod) would not lock on anything for a focus, and would not let me shoot the picture.

What are my appropriate settings?

Thanks,

Mike

welcome to the board.

all you have to do is set the camera on manual focus. this will let you take out of focus shots as well.. also on a tripod i'd suggest using a remote switch and the 2 second mirror lock up feature.

also, with the moon full, start your exposures at your lowest ISO and an initial setting in manual mode to 1/250sec f8.. the moon is a lot brighter than you think.

Thanks, Roy! I'll try it.
