noticed camera settings default is (off) and you can set it to(on) every time the camera is turned on
which way is better to leave |

It only works up to a point, I have a nice blob on my sensor that won't come off with it, so I have to bite the bullet and buy one of those spinning electrostatic brush thingies that everyone raves about... £40 though...

Mine's always on. It has the added advantage that every time you swap lenses (because you always turn the camera off first, right?) you give the sensor a quick shake when you turn it back on.

i leave mine off. i tend to manually do the dust removal after i change a lens and i tend to use a bulb blower when i prep my camera before i go out. seems to work so i haven't changed.

I leave mine off. I do this for several reasons.
1. I find it interesting that its default is off. Makes we wonder why Pentax would do that. 2. I know of very few high technology electronic devices that really like to be shaken around. 3. I don't think dust reduction works very well. I think it is 90% gimmick. 4. If I should end up with junk on the sensor I will activate the cleaning cycle manually. And then do a cleaning myself. 5. I uses up battery power. Robert |

Well unless you happen to be around a car and have a power inverter a dead battery in the field isn't going to magically recharge itself. Since I won't walk around with my camera on all of the time if I can save enough juice for one extra picture by turning off the dust removal feature I will.
