Super nice shots, Ronnie. (BTW, your Katydid is a she - that curved thing at the end of the abdomen is an ovipositor for laying eggs - and she is a vegetarian to boot, so the aphids are safe unless she eats the leaves out from under them!)

Awesome pictures, and now I know a bit more about katydid, too. This board is such an interesting place to hang out at - not sure which is better: taking pictures or reading here.

time - 2 hours for these shot's - they are but a few from the bunch. First started with a softbox on the flash but the reflections where to harsh, so cut a piece of paper to use as a bouncecard what worked much better.

Same time he was walking around in the living, so had to catch it (find it first) using a large glass and putting a piece of paper under it. - place it on the plant (flies of ...) So only a small part of the time is being used taking the shots. :-)

I stand corrected.On closer examination of your first picture I see there are actually two cirri - butlonger than those of typical North American katydids, which usually have short ones. I have to confess I never heard of a carnivorous katydid, but my references say a few of ourscan beomnivorous or "partly carnivorous." If theydo indeed eat aphids, I have some on my milkweeds that need a predator that won't avoid them, so I could usea fewof those carnivorous European katydids myself! Thanks for the correction.
