Beingused to shooting in Manual mode in my previous camera, Ipreferred the M mode in my K10D initially...until Iwitnessed how things went fasterwith the uniqueTAv mode especially for indoor shotsduring whichyou often haveadjust the ISO:cool:I am also quite pleased with the on board flash which allows me to shoot even macro without washing the subjectinto white! Still, though I adjusted at the Custom setting, half pressing does not lock the exposure as it does the focus in TAv mode! And pressing the AEL button to fix the exposure seems to crank up the Flash output like heck:(

Hope I'veexpressed the issue...Will be gratefulfor a remedy whichcould make me love this mode even more : )

Guess I do not need to mention which is which..

Likely this is because PPTL is a dynamic flash exposure, that relies on a quick preflash to adjust exposure/flash intensity, but since you have locked the exposure it is only exposing for the available light, and not measuring the preflash. Also guessing you were using on of the slow flah modes not pure flash, where I would think AE lock would have no effect..

I'll grant you that falls in the correctable firmware bug area... but can see why it might happen. I would think they could adapt those slow modes so AE lock is only locking the Availailable light, and allow the PTTL metering to still function normally.

Pentax so far has been pretty good about updating the 10D firmware... something for the Pentax easy to do list.

You might want to write them.

Sunsets, thank you for taking your timefor the reply, and also wellcome : ) TAv mode does't have a dedicated Slow snc. flash like the Av mode, but accepts any flash settings from, let's say, 1/8'' to 1/180'' for the given exposure, whose results, according to my experiments, range from a less flashy look to more:!:

I understand that because I couldn't use the AEL button which boosts the flash powerenough to whitewash the subject!!, I'll have to suffice with shifting to Pattern meteringwhenI pop up the flash at TAv mode, untilthe next firmware..
