Our travels have taken us to northwest France and the beaches of Normandy. Here are a few shots. If you would like to see more go to http://picasaweb.google.com/glenn2shelia/Normandy08
We start with the momument at Pointe du Hoc situated between Omaha and Utah beaches. It was attacked and taken by Lt Col James Earl Rudder and a band of army rangers on June 6, 1945. The remains of a "smaller" gun now resting on Utah beach A memorial housing 13 stones, 1 from each of the participating nations, including the Axis, pledging peace. The German cemetery holding the remains of 21,222 German soldiers And finally a shot of the American cemetery. There are 28 cemeteries, mostly British, all over Normandie, holding the remains of soldierswho took part in this history changing battle. A small tribute to arguablythe most important battle of the 20th century. Glenn |

Glenn:
Nice job with thealbum. My family and I visited Normandy the summer before we returned to the US (1988), and I was very impressed with the whole area. It is very disquieting to know so many individuals lost their life on theses beaches. |

Thanks for the comments, tsquare. It is definately worth the trip, although certainly not fun in the normal, vacation sense of the word.
