Camera is set to Manual

Flash is set to P-TTL

The flash unit will provide whatever flash is required for correct exposure within its flsh guide limits.

I photographed a UN presentation yesterday and did over 250 shots in this mode with perfect exposure, sometimes bouncing the flash and sometimes using the diffuser with the flash facing directly forward.

Some shots only used a small amount of flash and the flash unit recycled in less than a second and other times when bouncing it used full flash as I could hear it fire and then start recharging and you can hear it whistle.
