That is remarkable Roy. I remember only my Great Grandmother on my father's side. She was an Irish terror. LOL

That means that all of your grand (4) & great-grand parents (8), as well as one great, great-grand parent were alive at the time of the photo..AWSOME!! Is it something that you would be willing to share with us.. For myself, we only have photos going back two generations..Although I think that my uncle may have collected some from further back Hey DAWG Congrats on the impending grandfatherhood!! Bruce |

I can barely remember my great grandparents, although most were still alive when I was a small child. However, one of my most treasured photos is a family portrait of my great-great grandfather's family when my great-grandfather was a small boy.
My wife was at the other end of the "generational spectrum." Her mother was in her forties when my wife was born, and her father had been in his 60's when she was born. Thus, my wife's grandfather was a small child during the Civil War (born in 1854). He died well before my wife was born. |

I agree with Kjell, #7 is wonderful. But all the others certainly bring out the many moods of kids. It is sad welive insuch a time as to have to be so worried about our children. In my last post of kids I purposely used only shots where their faces couldn't be seen even though I knew the kids.
On a brighter note, my wife and I were able to spend the last week with our first and only grandchild. Dawg, I don't think I'll make it to great grand children, but who knows. At any rate my Dad did so here is a photo of our four generations. By the way, for all you technical guys and girls, my Dad had his eyes closed in this photo so I got another picture of him with his eyes open, cut them out andpasted them in to this one. Came out OK for a rookie. Glenn |

Came out great Glenn. Always nice when kids get that feeling of continuity in a family. Sad that that is being broken up so much in modern families. My daughters hate me and the wife so much they moved in beside us..LOL How much better can it get than you watching your grandchildren play every day but you don't have to keep up with them??

I am a fan of #5, boys will be boys.
#9 is a good shot too, she is really concentrating on mum's hand there. It is a sad reflection of modern times, that the fun of childhood has been so tarnished by some evil people. Only yesterday I was drivng along the beach and saw a bunch of young boys jumping off of a concrete pier into the ocean. I started to slow down with the intention of photographing that joy of all boys "Showing off to your mates" only to realise they were not dressed. That put paid to that photo op. Gee you reckon the NatGeo guys are having to be careful too? ![]() You akll know I have posted numerous images from Timor and looking back I have photographed that little boy patting his dog and the three young boys being mates. It never crossed my mind in the slightest whislt taking those shotsthat some other people may see those images differently.:O Crash |

I guess I would agree that a photographer needs to be careful about using strange children as subjects, however, I would be more worried about a punch in the nose from a paranoid parent than a prosecution. Prosecutors in the US have an enormous amount of discretion and there will always be the odd one that makes odd decisions but ones I have dealt with make logical decisions.. I have worked child porn cases back when I was in the detective bureau and spent days with the prosecuting attorney dividing photos between "child erotica" (legal) and "child pornography (illegal)." Based on my experience, it would have been impossible for any of the illegal photographs or videos to have been innocently taken. To clarify: a toddler in a bathtub or a little kid walking naked on the beach would not have even been child erotica.
Again, I am not advocating abandoning caution nor am I denying that some small (<1%) of cases could appear before the perfect storm of both a prosecutor and judge who both lacked common sense. I am saying that taking a picture of your 1 year old in the bath tub is very very unlikely to result in law enforcement showing up at your door with a search warrant. Basically I would say "Be careful, but don't let being careful let you miss capturing important moments." Tim |
