Bombardier 415 Canadian built. This is a later version of the aircraft used here for fighting forest fires. Our older aircraft, Bombardier (Canadair)CL-215,have radial piston engines instead of turbo-props and lack some of the aerodynamic devices used on this later model. Our fleet of three (or maybe 4) CL-215s are based out of here in Gander. They are great to photograph because they can fly so slowly.

A few of theseare leased every fire season for use in Southern California to augment our aerial armads for fighting wildfires. Here they are called "Super Scoopers," because they scoop up water "on the fly" to refill their tanks.
