I have tried to shoot birds in flight with Tamron 70-300 Di LD. All are cropped to get closer to the birds.
Tamron 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Test Shots - Hin's Tech Corner #1 ![]() #2 ![]() #3 ![]() #4 ![]() #5 ![]() And I want to gather inputs for a TC that maintain AF and metering, I am wondering if a Tamron 1.4x for about $140 is worth the investment to get the birds closer at 420mm. What other choices in similar cost and qualities are recommended? Thanks, Hin |

Hin
I have the Tamron lens and the Tamron 1.4x tc...it is brilliant! No noticeable image quality loss and very sharp combo. I have never tried any other TC on the lens. At times it may hunt a lil bit but not to often. Tony |

Hi Hin
I have the Tamron 70-300 and Tamron 1.4 TC. They are a good combination, but for flight shots you need to get the bird centredearly in the shot to get sharp focus then pan should be OK, but AF hunting can be a problem which can be rather dissapointing. Would be good if there was some way you could try one before you buy. I find for flight shots a straight 400 prime lens gives more consistantly sharp results. Cheers: Ian Mc |
