"One hour, or until the clouds let loose"--that's what I promised my wife when I headed for the botanical gardens this afternoon. I forgot my watch, but I didn't go deep into the botanical garden for fear I would be running for my car when the storms that were expected to bring lightning, hail, and a 20-30 degree temp drop started.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"Despite the threatening conditions, or perhaps because of them, I got an unusual level of bird activity including a white-throated sparrow, a Carolina wren, and a yellow-throated vireo.

The 70 degree temperature had both plants and insects confused. I would never have expected to see one of these fellows in December.

Even this little honeybee found himself working on the warm afternoon.

I finally decided the rain wasn't coming, and I had probably been gone longer than an hour (nearly two when I got back to my car's clock), but when I got out in the parking lot, I found this little fellow that I just had to shoot.

All in all, a good afternoon for shooting, and an even better one for not worrying too much about the movement of a watch. BTW...six hours later and it STILL looks like it's going to storm, but still dry.

The first one stands out with you having nailed the eye/head within a shallow DoF of a longer lens I believe. The 3rd one seems to be affected by camera shake a bit .

We are in winter time. And shooting time is precious if available at all. Thanks for sharing

Right on the first count, for sure. I was shooting with a Phoenix 100-400mm at full extension, manual focus. I'm not sure whether the third one's problem was shake or being just a hair off on focus. Either way, I replaced it.

Looks like you had a good time and managed to take some good pictures. I really like the first one, along with the butterfly. It's nice when things come together like that.
