This afternoon, my wife and I attended a pair of programs as a part of the annual Eagle Awareness weekend at a nearby state park, giving us a chance to get up close and personal with some simply beautiful birds as a part of the state Game and Fish Commission's Raptor Education Program. Most of the birds are native to Arkansas, including both brown and gray screech owls

Hawks included red tails, broad-winged, and an unusual amelanistic (not albino) red-tail

Like many of these birds, this bald eagle was part of the Raptor rehab program after being shot by a hunter.

Although he's not native to Arkansas (or the US) one of the most interesting birds was the world's smallest falcon, an African pygmy falcon

And what would a display of Arkansas raptors be without this handsome fellow?

All shots taken with the Pentax K10d and the DA*50-135 lens.
