Just picked up this lens. Need some practice with the macros. Took some bird shots and impressed so far. Lens like all Sigma EX range appears solid and well built. AF seems fast although light was bright afternoon sun.
This first photo heavily cropped. (Hey its not a Bigma). |

Always nice to see some good quality macro shots.....:-)
Looks like this lens doubles as a good telephoto. Dal |

Hi Dal
Wanted the macro for wildflower shots. Handy if it takes reasonable bird etc shots. On longer hikes the Bigma is likely to be left at home! cheers bb2 |

Here I was expecting bugs or flowers and you present me with birds! It's nice to have a dedicated macro lens that's useful for other things, too, isn't it? Saves messing about with extra things all the time.

Hi Gumnut, we were also in Kings Park on weekend. Spring is coming despite cold weather and heavy rain recently. Flowers everywhere! Lots of birds.
Elsewhere in this forum someone recently posted some spectacular insect shots using this lens and a TC. Also other forums I have seen enough macro shots using the Sigma 105 to know that the only limitation will be my skill and effort in setting up a shot. The Sigma 180 EX macro would have been nice. Compatable with the Sigma TC, but heavier and more expensive. This lens is not compatable with the Sigma TCs. Tried some close ups and macros today. Here is a Kunzia flower: cheers to all bb2 |
